Internet speed will remain slow till Jan 20: ISPAB

The Internet speed in the country will remain slow till January 20, said Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB).

Confirming the matter to the journalists, Emdadul Haque, General Secretary of ISP said, three submarine cables that serve Bangladesh have been cut or disconnected in last few days.

According to source, the subscribers of ISP operators depended on International Terrestrial Cable (ITC) have been facing problem to browse different websites for some days as the internet speed is very slow.

ITC operators in Bangladesh imported bandwidth from India. The submarine communications cable system between India and France, have been ineffective that caused slow internet speed in Bangladesh.

India is connected with Singapore through O2O submarine telecommunication cable owned by Airtel India. The cable has been ineffective since December 13, 2016 as it was cut off almost 40 kilometers far away from the sea bank of Chennai.

In this connection, Fayjur Rahman Choudhury, Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications Ministry told the journalists that, he will inquire into the matter.
