Poet Jasimuddin’s 114th birth anniversary today
The 114th birth anniversary of poet Jasimuddin, commonly known as Palli Kobi, is being observed on Sunday through various programmes.
Marking the day, Faridpur district administration and Jasim Foundation will hold elaborate programmes at his native village Gobindapur on the bank of the river Kumar in the district.
The programmes include placing wreaths at the poet`s grave, and holding a discussion on his life and works and a doa mahfil.
Besides, many socio-cultural organisations have also arranged different programmes commemorating the poet and his creations.
DC Umme Salma Tanzia will be present as chief guest at the discussion. The programme will be chaired by ADC (Gen) Protap Chandra Biswas. Police Super Shubhash Chandra Saha and Sadar upazila chairman Kh. Mohetesham Hossain Babor will be present as special guests on the occasion.
A milad mahfil will also be held following the discussion meeting seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of the poet.
Jasimuddin was born on January 1 in 1903 in Faridpur. He died on March 13 in 1976, in Dhaka, aged 73.
