Gaibandha MP dead after shooting attack

Manzurul Islam Liton, Awami League lawmaker from Gaibandha-1, died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after he was shot during an attack at his village home at Sundarganj of Gaibandha in this evening, police have said.

Confirming the matter, officer-in-charge of Dhap Police Outpost Dibakor said Liton died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Earlier, the MP sustained bullet hit injuries at his home at Sahabaj of Bamandanga at around 5:45pm.

Family sources said three masked gunmen riding on motorbikes went their home and shot him. The attackers immediately fled the scene.

On October 15, Manzurul Islam Liton was arrested from Uttara in the city on charges of shooting a boy.

Liton was released on bail after serving 24 days jail in a Gaibandha prison.
