Gatherings on open places banned on 31st night

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday imposed a ban on holding gatherings in open places on the 31st night aimed at making the celebration smooth and peaceful.

"No gathering will be allowed on roads, intersections and flyovers and likewise no programme can be held under the open sky aimed at ensuring foolproof security for its smooth and peaceful celebration," DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre elaborating the overall security measures ahead the 31st night.

The DMP boss asked all the city dwellers to refrain from opening fireworks, exploding crackers, reckless driving, misbehavior with others and illegal activities and carrying licensed firearms in any sorts of gatherings, as the DMP determined to maintain law and order at any stake.

"No bar will be allowed to remain open after 6pm on the 31st night," he also said.

He requested the residents of Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas to return to their localities before 8pm on the 31st night and also called upon all not to enter the Hatirjheel area after 8pm.

"No outside vehicles will be allowed to enter Dhaka University (DU) area by 6pm pm on the 31st night while the vehicles of the local residents such as teachers, officers and employees will be allowed to enter the through Shahbagh and Nilkheet crossings after showing identity," he also said.

Elaborating the security details, the commissioner hoped that all the city dwellers will assist police to maintain the law and order.
