All eyes on NCC polls result
Though there were many concerns over Narayanganj City Corporation polls, the election has been held free, fair and peaceful manner without any untoward incident.
People of the country now is keeping their attention to the result of the election especially to Mayoral polls’ result as arch-rivals Awami League and BNP, who boycotted the last NCC election, have fought until the end.
Though seven mayoral aspirants have contested in the polls, Awami League-backed Selina Hayat Ivy and BNP mayoral candidate Shakhawat Hossain are the main contestants.
Political observers say that this poll is particularly important as this is the last polling duties of the incumbent EC.
It is a great chance for political parties like BNP and ruling Awami League to verify their popularity before the next general election.
Many central leaders of the parties took part in electioneering of NCC polls, which prove how much important the election for the respective party.
There was widespread speculation about the role of Shamim Osman, who was defeated to Ivy in previous city polls.
However, casting his vote at Narayanganj Bar Academy Polling centre the Narayanganj Awami League lawmaker said the polls would be the model of election in Bangladesh.
Apart from police and Rab, BGB was deployed in the city to bring law and order situation under control. A total of 5,600 members of law enforcing agencies have performed their duties there.
There are 174 polling centres in 27 wards of the city corporation with 1304 polling booths.
The voting was continued from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Seven mayoral candidates, 156 general councilor candidates and 38 reserved councilor candidates have participated in the election.
