Voting began in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election at 8am and it will continue till 4pm on Thursday without any break.

Over 4.79 lakh voters are expected to cast their ballots to elect the city mayor, 27 ward councillors and nine women councillors (reserved seats) under the party symbols for the first time.

Though seven candidates are contesting the polls, AL-backed Selina Hayat Ivy and BNP-backed Shakhawat Hossain Khan are in the limelight of the election race.

The maiden election to the NCC was held on October 30, 2011 when Selina Hayat Ivy won the race, defeating ruling Awami League-backed candidate Shamim Osman.
