Talks with Myanmar on Rohingya soon: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said Bangladesh government will sit for talks with the Maynmar government over the Rohingya issue very soon.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is keeping a close eye on the Rohingya issue . . . Bangladesh government will discuss the Rohingya issue with Myanmar very soon," he told journalists after inaugurating Roangchhari Police Station and Extension Building of Balaghata Police Lines School in the town.

Replying to a query, the home minister said the present government vows to show `zero tolerance` against the use of illegal firearms and terrorist activities.

"The law enforcement agency continues its special drive keeping that entire thing in mind," he added.

The minister later attended the annual Raj Punnah, the biggest colourful traditional festival of the Bohmong tribe, that began here today.

State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur Bahadur U Shwe Sing, Chittagong Area Commander Major General Jahangir Kabir Talukder, Bandarban Army Region Commander Brigadier General Zobaier Salehin, Bandarban Parbatya Zilla Parishad Chairman Kashoyhla, Rangamati Zilla Parishad Chairman Bishketu Chakma, Khagrachari ZIlla Parishad Chairman Kongjuri Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Banik and Police Super Sanjit Kumar Ray, among others, were present on the occasion.
