Govt. now blocks Whatsapp, My People and Line
After blocking widely popular communication applications - Viber and Tango, government again ordered to block three other popular applications-Whatsapp, My People and Line.
Zahir Ahmed, Managing Director of BDlink, an International Terrestrial Cable (ITC) and an Internet Gateway, told a reporter of a leading national daily, he received a letter from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Monday to block the new three applications. Barring period of Viber and Tango has also been extended till January 21 midnight, said officials of BTRC.
Md Sarwar Alam, secretary and spokesperson for BTRC, said on Sunday the law enforcement and intelligence agencies asked the regulator to block Viber and Tango.
Police sources said the government ordered to block the previous two applications on specific information of arson, torching, bombing and subversive activities by the activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance with the help of these instant voice and text messaging services. Government took the decision of blocking the applications on recommendation of the intelligence, added the officials.
