Play strong role in fighting terrorism, militancy: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today directed the fresh officials of the administration to work with self confidence and play a strong role in stamping out terrorism and militancy from the country.

"You will have to play a strong role against terrorism and militancy and encourage the people in keeping them away from the twin demons," she said.

In this connection, Sheikh Hasina said the government is waging a social movement against terrorism and militancy by involving people of classes and professions including guardians, teachers, imams of mosques and students.

"So all will have to stay alert so that terrorism and militancy don`t raise their head on the soil of Bangladesh. We want to build Bangladesh as a peaceful nation in South Asia-it`s our goal," she added.

The premier was addressing the concluding function of the 98th and 99th law and administration courses of Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy at Shahbagh here this morning.

Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam addressed the function as the special guest, while State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique and Senior Secretary of the ministry Dr Mozammel Haque Khan also spoke on the occasion.

Rector of BCS Administration Academy Dr M Aslam Alam gave the welcome speech at the function.

The prime minister said a new disturbance in the name of terrorism and militancy has recently emerged in the country. "But we will have to keep Bangladesh free from this scourge at any cost as every person wants to live in peace," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said her government has already taken bold measures to clamp down on terrorism and militancy. "We are getting good results as the people of all classes and professions have been involved in it," she said.

The premier said Islam, the religion of peace, doesn`t speak about killing of human beings. "Allah has taken the responsibility whether a human being remains alive or not ... it`s not in the hands of human beings," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the religious fanaticism is destroying the sanctity of Islam as well playing ducks and drakes with the life of the people.

She said the people will perform their respective religions and learn good things from the religions and it`s the directives of Allah. "The human beings will have to abide by these directives in that way, not snatching the life of the people," she said.
