Assam to raise four police battalions for Indo-Bangladesh border
Six months after coming to power, the BJP-led government in Assam on Tuesday took one step forward to fulfil its election promise of intensifying surveillance and security along the Indo-Bangladesh border by deciding to raise four new police battalions for the purpose.
These four battalions, comprising of about 4,000 men, would form the second line of vigil and patrolling along the border and assist the existing security mechanism along the International Border, the government said. The BJP had, in its election manifesto for the Assam assembly election earlier this year promised to strengthen the border wing of the Assam Police in coordination with the BSF to prevent infiltration from Bangladesh.
