President, PM pay homage to Martyred Intellectuals
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have paid profound tributes to the martyred intellectuals by placing wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Mirpur on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day.
They placed wreaths on Wednesday morning to pay their homage to the great heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the country and the nation.
Later, the President and PM stood in solemn silence for some time to show respect to the memories of the intellectuals when the bugle played the last post.
After the President and the PM, people from all walks of life started paying their respect placing flowers at the Memorial.
On the night of December 14 in 1971, over 200 Bangalee intellectuals including professors, journalists, doctors, artistes, engineers, and writers were picked up in Dhaka by the Pakistani occupation forces, aided by their local collaborators.
First Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed declared December 14 as the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day.
