"Bangladesh made progress on labour rights "
Bangladesh has made a significant progress in ensuring labour rights for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through protecting the workers’ interests by ensuring worker-friendly environment in all fields of production.
“Bangladesh has taken up all sorts of efforts to raise skilled workforce for achieving the SDGs,” State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haque said while addressing a joint press conference with International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director General Guy Ryder at a local hotel in the city.
Guy Ryder said the Bangladesh government, employers and the workers’ representatives are taking various steps to take forward the decent work programme in the country saying “Bangladesh can enjoy the benefits of economic development in future.”
The Bangladesh government has taken a project with assistance of Denmark and Sweden for bringing success in social dialogue with ILO, said Mujibul Haque adding that the government would also take a project on “Skill-21 Employing Citizens for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth” for modernizing the existing technical and vocational training methods.
“The project will help the country to turn into a middle income one,” he added.
