PayPal will start operations in Bangladesh very soon: Palak

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that he hoped the online money-transfer agency PayPal would start its operation in Bangladesh very soon.

‘I believe we can give you a good news in this regard very soon,’ the state minister said while replying to a question of a participant at a programme held at Canadian University of Bangladesh in Dhaka on Sunday.

He said that the discussion with PayPal authority has advanced further and now there is only one big problem.

“The prime minister’s ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy has instructed us to resolve the International Payment Gateway problem in the shortest possible time,” he said.

He said that one of our Silicon Valley-based firms has signed a contract with PayPal’s affiliate Xoom. Xoom is operating in 38 countries.

He said that the government had a meeting with a PayPal vice president recently. Bringing PayPal to Bangladesh is a long standing demand of the freelancers as they face difficulties in transaction without PayPal operation in Bangladesh.
