Investigation on over recent disappearance of people: Anisul

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Saturday said the government is investigating the disappearance of people recently and refrained from elaborating the matter without getting the probe report.

"Investigation is taking place over the disappearance and it would not be appropriate to make comment without getting the report. But we order prompt investigation whenever allegation of extrajudicial killing comes to us. Such killing poses a big obstruction in establishing rule of law in the country," he said.

The minister came up with the observations while addressing seminal organized by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the occasion of World Human Rights Day.

Presided over by NHRC chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, the seminar was addressed by its member Md Nazrul Islam and UNDP deputy country director Nick Beresford. Senior jurist Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam placed keynote paper on the occasion.

"Whether it is extrajudicial killing or torture, government is taking action whenever such matters come to its attention. The current government is determined to follow the constitution word by word," Anisul added.

NHRC chairman in his speech urged everyone to be aware about their human rights and rapidly brought matters to law enforcing agencies` attention, if untoward incident takes place with them.

"We should resist socially if people tries to detain someone without revealing their identity. We should follow the directions given by the apex court in this regard," he said.
