Singapore keen to invest in LNG, power plant: Tofail
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Singapore has shown interest to invest in establishing liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and power plant in Bangladesh.
Singaporean Trade Minister Lim Hng Kiang expressed his country’s keenness during a meeting with the visiting Bangladeshi Commerce Minister, said an official release on Tuesday.
‘Singaporean Trade Minister would visit Bangladesh shortly to see the possible investment areas,’ he added.
Tofail said Singapore wanted to work quickly in line with the singed MoU, as investment friendly atmosphere and facilities offered by the government in Bangladesh has attracted them.
The minister also told his counterpart that Bangladesh has offered special packages for the foreign investment in special economic zones.
He also assured Lim Hng Kiang to provide all kinds of facilities for investment.
Bangladesh has exported products worth $ 165 million in last year to Singapore against the import of $ 2 billion.
Expressing their satisfaction over the quick progress of Bangladesh`s socioeconomic and other sectors, Singaporean Trade Minister said his country is eager to boost bilateral trade.
S M Anisul Huq and commercial councilor Khaja Miah were present during the meeting.
