5 die after eating puffer fish in Sylhet

Five people died on Tuesday  after eating puffer fish (locally known as patka fish) in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet. The victims included two children.

The victims are Abdur Rahim, 65, his son Suleman Miah, 26 and Lokman Miah, 20, Rahim Ahmed, 10, and Moni Ahmed, 7. They were residents of Darbast Uttar Mile village.

It was learnt that they bought the puffer fish from a local market. 

After eating the fish, they fell sick. They were rushed to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Doctors declared them  this morning.
Officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Police Station Shafiul Kabir confirmed the death and said that they were investigating the incident.
