RMG workers clash with police in Mirpur
Workers of an apparel factory clashed with law enforcement forces on Monday in capital’s Mirpur area as they carried out protest rally demanding fair compensation.
Dozens of workers were injured in the clash.
Officer-in-Charge in Mirpur Police Station Bhuiyan Mahbub Hossain said the clash started when agitated workers tried to block the road leading to Mirpur zoo.
Workers claimed that the management of Rezaul Apparels factory cheated the workers and did not give them their compensation.
It was learnt that factory was scheduled to relocate to Gazipur by the end of February.
When the workers demanded compensation on Sunday night, the management agreed to compensate workers.
On Monday morning, workers found the factory closed and machineries disappeared.
Meanwhile, no one from the authorities could be found on the spot.
