The local administration on Monday imposed section 144 in Mymensingh’s Phulbaria municipality area to avert untoward situation following Sunday’s clash that killed two people.

Confirming the matter, Lira Torofdar, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) told that, the restriction, which has been enforced from 6am, will be continued until further notice.

On Sunday, teachers and students of Phulbaria Degree College brought out a procession in the district town, demanding nationalization of the college.

The agitators blockaded the Phulbaria-Mymensigh Highway to press their demand. They locked into a clash with the law enforcers when police tried to disperse them.

Later, police charged batons and opened fire on the demonstrators, leaving at least 20 people injured.

Of the injured, Safar Ali, a pedestrian, died on the way to Churkhai Community Hospital while Abul Kalam Azad, an associate professor of Phulbaria Degree College, died at the hospital.
