Govt working for a permanent solution to Rohingya: Shahjahan Khan
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan said that Bangladesh government is working on a permanent solution to the Rohingya issue.
Terming the persecution of Rohingya inhumane, the minister, however, said it is not possible to resolve this long-standing problem only by providing shelter to the Rohingya people.
“If Bangladesh provides Rohingy people with shelter, their long-standing problems will not be resolved overnight. Bangladesh government has raised the issue with many countries in the diplomatic level. The Myanmar government has also assured us that they have formed a taskforce to resolve the problem,” the minister said while he was inaugurating a building of Asmat Ali Khan Public School and College in Madaripur on Sunday.
A large number of Rohingyas have fled Rakhine state in the last few weeks as Myanmar security forces have been conducting crackdown on the minority group. Dozens of people were killed in the crackdown while many women were raped.
Among others, Madaripur Sadar upazila council chairman Pavelur Rahman Shafiq, Municipality’s Mayor Khalid Hossain Yead and principal of the college Md Humayun, were present at the inauguration program.
