Diaz’s death protest: CU students continue strike
A group of Chittagong University students are observing an indefinite strike in the campus to press home their five-point demand including arrest of the accused in a murder case filled over the death of BCL leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury.
The students are allegedly hampering classes as their protests have obstructed rail and road communication with the campus.
They snapped the hose between several compartments of a university shuttle train at Bottoli railway station in the port city on Saturday night.
Later, the authorities suspended the train service on security grounds. The railway official however could not give any time for resuming the service.
The five-point demand called under the banner of ‘general students’ include ensuring securities for the students, maintaining fair atmosphere of education, assurance of neutral and fair probe in Diaz murder, bringing killers immediately under justice and removing the university proctorial body.
It is mentionable that, Diaz was the central assistant secretary of the pro-Awami League student body and also a former joint secretary of its CU unit. His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his bedroom at his family’s rented house in the university`s Gate-2 area in the night of November 20.
