‘JMB man’ killed in Bagerhat ‘gunfight’
A suspected member of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Rakhalgachhi area in Bagerhat early Sunday.
Identity of the deceased could not be identified immediately.
Pankaj Chandra Roy, Superintendent of Police of Bagerhat said on secret information that some 10 to 14 JMB men were gathering there for carrying out any subversive activities, a team of police led by Bagerhat sadar thana officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman conducted a drive in the area.
Sensing the presence of the detectives, the JMB men opened fire at police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight. At that time, one JMB man was killed on the spot and others managed to flee away.
Law enforcers seized two shutter guns, three hand-bombs and five rounds of bullets from the spot.
