Shaheed Dr Milon Day today

Shaheed Dr Milon Day is being observed around the country on Sunday.

On this day in 1990, the armed cadres of the then autocratic ruler HM Ershad gunned down Dr Milon, the then joint secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association, near the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at Dhaka University in a bid to foil the mass upsurge.

On the eve of the day, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in separate statements, recalled the supreme sacrifice of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon for the cause of restoration of democratic system, reports BSS.

Different political parties, socio-cultural-professional bodies have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe Shaheed Dr Milon Day.

The programmes of the day include placing of wreaths and offering of special prayers at the grave of Dr Milon on Dhaka Medical College campus and at Milon Smrity Chattar (Square) near TSC.

In observance of the day, Shaheed Dr Milon Sangsad would hold a discussion at the TSC Road Island at 3pm. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu is scheduled to attend the programme as the chief guest.
