UN Assembly passes Bangladesh resolution for ‘culture of peace’
The General Assembly of the United Nations in a unanimous resolution on Thursday passed a Bangladesh proposal for ‘culture of peace’ like previous year, ’ BSS reports.
Bangladesh was one of 93 countries to co-sponsor the resolution.
In an impromptu response, the Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN, Masud Bin Momen, said that the main spirit of the resolution was to increase tolerance which would reduce global tensions.
The diplomat also said that despite the negative propaganda by certain quarters the adoption of the resolution, once again, proved that the global community accepted Bangladesh as a responsible partner.
Earlier in 1999, a similar resolution by Bangladesh was passed by the UN for a ‘decade of peace of culture.’
Since 2001, Bangladesh has been raising the issue every year and it was always accepted unanimously.
