DU students threaten to surround Myanmar Embassy
The students of Dhaka University formed a human chain protesting against the persecution by Myanmar military on Rohingya Muslims, a minority group, in Rakhaine state of the country.
They also urged United Nations and world community to take initiatives to stop the killings and threatened to surround the embassy of Myanmar in Dhaka, if the government don’t take any action to stop the genocide.
The students on Monday said these from a human chain forming in front of ‘Raju Statue’ in the campus of Dhaka University, which is the oldest university in the country and familiar as Oxford of the East.
Over five hundred students took part in the human chain forming under banner of general students.
Vice chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddque, Arts Faculty dean Prof. Dr. Begum Akter Kamal, Business Faculty dean Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam and proctor Prof. Dr. Amzad Ali expressed solidarity with the students.
Different organizations including Dhaka University Family, Slogan 71, Cultural Society and Mime Action also expressed solidarity.
Management Department Professor Mosharraf Hossain joining in human chain said, ‘Though Myanmar is committing genocide on Rohingya Muslims, the international community is silent. United Nations urged Bangladesh to open its border instead of taking any action to stop the killings. It is abominable.’
