PM shocked at loss of lives in India rail crash

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in a train accident in India.

"I am deeply shocked and saddened at the tragic death of so many people and injury of scores others in a train accident in Uttar Pradesh in India," PM`s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim quoted her as saying.

She added: "On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, and on my own behalf, I express my deepest condolences ... our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families."

The premier prayed for salvation of the departed souls and wished early recovery of the injured.

The train travelling between the northeastern city of Patna and the central city of Indore derailed in northern Uttar Pradesh early today, killing at least 91 people and injuring scores more, Indian media said quoting railway officials.

Fourteen carriages of the train were thrown off track in Pukhrayan, 65, kilometers south of Kanpur city, according to railway officials.
