Attacks on Santals: 2 more arrested

Police arrested two more people in the case filed over the attacks on Santal community at Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha early Saturday.

The deceased are Sorowar Hossain, son of late Nayeb Ali, and Akbar Ali, son of Abdur Rahman of Kamarpara village of the upazila.

With the latest, a total of 10 people have so far been arrested in this connection, according to police.

Subrato Kumar Sarker, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station, said, ‘Acting on a tip-off, police arrested them from their native village Kamarpara.’

On November 6, a triangular clash ensued among the indigenous people and the workers of Rangpur Sugar Mills and police following an attempt by the workers of Rangpur Sugar Mill to evict the Santals from the mill area.
