Police constable nabbed while snatching

A police constable was lynched by mob while snatching from a trader at Pantho Kunjo Park near Karwan Bazar intersection in Dhaka.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am on Friday. The accused was identified as Latifuzzaman, a traffic police constable of Dhaka North zone.

Quoting victims, Shahbagh police officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique told Jagonews that Latifuzzaman and his associates were coming on a motorbike intercepted Abdul Basir, an egg businessman, at Sonargaon crossing while Basir was returning to his shop from Lalbagh after selling eggs. At one stage police personnel snatched Tk 44,000 from the trader and tried to flee the scene. However, locals managed to catch a snatcher and beat him indiscriminately.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered Latifuzzaman from the mob. Another snatcher managed to flee the scene.

Latifuzzaman is now kept in Shahbagh police station.
