Nasirnagar attacks: BNP leader arrested

Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in a case filed over the arson attacks on Hindu community at Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria early Wednesday.

The detainee was identified as Amirul Hosen Chokder, president of upazila sadar union BNP unit, son of Mosharrof Hosen Chokder of Duttapara area in the upazila.

A total of 85 people were arrested in the arson attacks case till now, according to Nasinagar police.

In this connection, Abu Zafar, officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar Police Station, said they arrested Amirul and the drive will continue.

On 30 October, some unruly people demolished 15 Hindu temples and vandalised more than 100 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment.

On 3 October, a group of miscreants also set fire on three houses of the Hindhu community and a temple.
