Pay Tk. 2500 crore for bail: SC to Destiny bosses
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday asked Destiny Group Managing Director Rafiqul Amin and Destiny -2000 Limited Chairman Mohammad Hossain to pay Tk. 2500 crore for getting bail in two money laundering cases filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order while disposing of two petitions filed by ACC against the High Court order that granted bail to the two accused in the cases.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan, lawyer for ACC, said, ‘They have to pay Tk. 2800 crore in six weeks time by selling off 3.5 million tress from the company’s Tree Plantation Project or paying Taka 2,500 crore from any other sources.’
According to the court sources, the money will be paid to the government treasury fund through Bangladesh Bank and ACC will monitor it that whether the investors of Destiny get the money.
Khurshid said, the court directed the jail authorities to give Destiny bosses chance to sign the necessary documents for selling the trees.
Destiny incumbent chief executive officer will monitor the whole tree selling process, he added.
