Attorney general hopes to get full order on review soon
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam on Thursday hoped that the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will release full orders on the review pleas of war crimes convicts Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury soon.
The chief law officer of the state said this at a press briefing held at his office this morning.
"I had sought a short order in this regard from the court yesterday, but court in reply had said it wouldn`t be required. This morning I again pleaded for that order and reply was the same. And that is why, I am expecting to get the full verdicts in this regard soon," he said.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday rejected two pleas of Mojaheed and Salauddin, seeking review of its orders that upheld their death sentences for committing crimes against humanity.
On October 1, 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 sentenced Salauddin to death for his crimes against humanity. He lodged appeal against his sentence on October 29, 2013 and the Appellate Division in its verdict on July 29, 2015, upheld the death sentence.
The ICT-2 on July 17, 2013, sentenced Mojaheed to death for committing crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation. The Jamaat leader filed an appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on August 12, 2013.
On June 16, 2015, the Appellate Division delivered its judgement, upholding the death for the commander notorious Al Badr.
The Apex Court on September 30 released the full verdicts in both the cases and on October 1 the ICT issued death warrants against the two convicts.
Both Mojaheed and Salauddin filed their respective review pleas on October 14.
