RUET closed over BCL infighting
Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has been closed for seven days following a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
The university authorities have asked residential students to vacate their halls by 3pm today and the halls will open around 9am on November 18.
Confirming the matter N H M Kamruzzaman, general secretary of RUET Teachers Association, said the closure decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the RUET’s academic council, presided over its vice-chancellor Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg.
Campus sources said the two groups of RUET unit BCL - one led by Topu and the other by Shawkat- locked into a clash at around 10pm on Thursday over the matter of several laptops theft.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus to keep situation under control.
