No arrest without warrant
The Supreme Court released its full verdict on 54 and 167 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). The apex court released the verdict after the judges concerned signed it on Thursday.
In the verdict, the court said that police cannot arrest and detain any person without any warrant over suspicion.
Earlier on May 24, the police lost their discretionary powers concerning arrest, detention in custody and remand as the SC upheld a verdict against the arbitrary use of their sweeping authority.
The judgment will be uploaded in the SC website.
