PM pays tributes to Bangabandhu in Tungipara

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his mausoleum on Tuesday.

After placing the wreath, the premier stood in solemn silence for sometime as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation.

Later, flanked by cabinet members as well as newly-elected leaders of Awami League (AL) Advisory Council and AL Central Working Committee (ALCWC), Sheikh Hasina, also the AL president, laid another wreath at the grave of Bangabandhu as the party chief.

She later offered Fateha and joined a special munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage, reports BSS.

Sheikh Rehana, the younger daughter of Bangabandhu, also offered Fateha and took part in the munajat along with the prime minister and senior AL leaders.

Later, they attended a milad and doa mahfil on the occasion.

Earlier, the prime minister arrived here around 11.40am by an Air Force helicopter on her maiden visit to Tungipara, the ancestral home of Bangabandhu, after her reelection as the Awami League president.

After her arrival at Tungipara Upazila Complex Helipad, the premier went straight to the mausoleum of Bangabandhu to pay homage to the great leader.

The Awami League president chaired a joint meeting of AL Advisory Council and ALCWC to be held at 2 pm here.

Sheikh Hasina was reelected president of Awami League unanimously in the 20th national council of the party on October 22-23 while Obaidul Quader was elected as new general secretary.

This is the eighth time Sheikh Hasina, the elder daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was reelected as the head of Awami League, one of the oldest political parties of the subcontinent.
