UP chairman, 1 other shot dead in Comilla

The Union Parishad chairman of Ziakandi in Comilla’s Titash upazila and an accomplice of his were shot to death by miscreants on Tuesday morning.

The deceased are Monir Hosen Sarder, 48, a union parishad chairman and Joint Convener of Upazila Juba League and his brother-in-law Mohiuddin, 35.

The district police control room confirmed the matter.

Monir’s cousin Mosarrof Hosen said, Monir and his brother in-law Mohiuddin came under attack on Gouripur-Homna road around 8am.

Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex’s Resident Medical Officer Habibur Rahman said Monir Hossain sustained multiple shots on his chest. Other also sustained stabs.

Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abu Salam Mia said Monir and his brother in-law Mohiuddin were declared dead when taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Additional law enforcers were deployed at spot to avert any further untoward incident, he added.
