SC upholds retirement age of freedom fighters
The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Monday upheld a High Court verdict that ordered to place a proposal to the Cabinet of increasing retirement age of freedom fighters from 57 to 65 in government job.
A four-member bench, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order dismissing a leave-to-appeal filed by the state.
Lawyer Azharullah Bhuiyan stood for the freedom fighters.
Azharullah told reporters after the hearing that now there is no legal barrier to place the proposal to the Cabinet.
On January 14 in 2015, the high court passed the order following a writ petition to extend the retirement age of fighters to 65 years in 2013.
