SC upholds HC verdict: MPs can’t head school, college bodies
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday upheld a High Court (HC) order that declared two clauses of the Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations 2009 illegal as those allow MPs to lead the managing committees or governing bodies of private schools and colleges.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order.
Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond stood for the writ petition while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
Following two writ petitions, the HC on June 1 declared illegal the rules that allowed MPs to become chiefs of the committees of the educational institutions without elections.
