5-taka note to go under govt jurisdiction
`Bangladesh Coinage (Amendment) Act, 2015` Bill passed in Parliament on Sunday, seeking to make the 5-taka coin and note as government coin and note.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith moved the Bill in the House and it was passed by voice vote.
In the Bill’s objectives, it was stated that The Bangladesh Coinage Order was amended in 1989 after long 19 years to bring the 2-taka coin under the jurisdiction of government.
"By the time, some 26 years have been passed, and now a decision has been taken to bring the 5-taka note under the jurisdiction of the government as the purchase capacity has been reduced a lot compared to the past," it said.
It also said there will be no inflationary impact due to this as the total amount of number of money in circulation will remain the same.
