JMB leader killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A leader of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in an alleged gunfight with Detective Branch of Police.

The incident took place at Koburhat area of Kushtia sadar upazila on Monday at 3am. At that time four members of detective police were also injured.

The deceased is Kunu Molla, inhabitant of Khajanagar area of Kushtia sadar upazila. He was the local commander of JMB.

Police recovered a foreign made pistol, two round bullets, three machetes and some cartridges from the spot. 

Sabbirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Detective Police, some JMB men were gathering at Koburhat area to commit sabotage activities. Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot. Sensing the presence of police, they opened fire forcing them to retaliate triggering a ‘gunfight’.

Later Kunu Molla was critically injured and sent to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he added.
