PM for cautious bail for criminals
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday urged the judiciary to be more cautious while granting bail to the persons accused in cases in connection with killing, militancy, terrorism, arms and explosives.
The prime minister said this in reply to a question from treasury bench member Kamal Ahmed Majumder during Prime Minister`s question answer session in the parliament.
Sheikh Hasina said the judiciary is fully independent and it`s the jurisdiction of the judges to allow bail to an accused. However, attention is required to be given to the matter so that the actual criminals get punishment and none of them can escape through the loopholes of law, she said.
The Prime Minister said police and Intelligence agencies collect information about the criminals by spending huge money and arrest them after their long stride for six months to one year or more. And, it`s unfortunate that many of them are released within 15 days, she said.
Laying importance on creating massive awareness about the criminals, she said everybody should be cautious in ensuring punishment of the criminals.
"In this regard, I hope the judges would be careful to some extent about this matter," she said adding that the defense lawyers should also be careful about the security and safety of the people and country.
