Stay order extended over recognising 2,367 guerrillas as FFs

The Supreme Court has extended the stay order for two weeks that was given by High Court (HC) over recognising 2,367 members of the guerrilla force, who participated in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, as freedom fighters.

The five-member Appellate Division bench led by the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order on Sunday.

Earlier on October 8, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique stayed the HC verdict till October 30 following a petition filed by the government.

The guerrilla force fought for Bangladesh during the Liberation War in 1971 and surrendered their arms to the then President, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on January 30, 1972.
