2 killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

Two members of dacoit gang were killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Gobindagunia area of Mirpur upazila in Kushtia on Saturday at 12.30am.

Apart from three police members were also wounded in the incident.

Identities of dacoits could not be known immediately. The bodies were sent to Kushtia General Hospital.

Confirming the matter, Kazi Jalal Uddin said a pistol, a bomb and some homemade arms were recovered from the spot.

He said, a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery at Gobindagunia area. Acting on a tip off, police rushed to the spot.

Sensing the presence of police, they opened fire to police forcing them to retaliate triggering a ‘gunfight’. At that time two dacoit members were killed on the spot, he added.
