Cyclone Kyant weakens further

The cyclonic storm ‘kyant’ has further weakened through rainfall and it is approaching towards the Andhra Pradesh coast of India, an official of Met Office told Thursday.

‘We are asking maritime ports to follow signal number one instead of signal two as the cyclonic storm Kyant continues to weaken causing light to heavy showers,’ said SM Qumrul Hasan, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department(BMD).

Under the influence of the Kyant, different parts of the country are witnessing rainfall and this rainfall trend may continue till tomorrow, he said.

According to a special weather bulletin of BMD, the cyclonic storm ‘kyant’ over West-Central Bay and adjoining area moved west-southwestwards weaken into a deep depression over the same area, reported BSS.

It was centered at 9am today about 975 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 930 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 855 kms southwest of Mongla port and 850 kms southwest of Payra port. It is likely to move in a west-southwesterly direction further.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the deep depression centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower distant warning signal no. two but instead hoist distant cautionary signal no. one (r) one.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
