Rangpur ward councillor nabbed over extortion

Police on Thursday nabbed Moklesur Rhaman Toru, 50, councillor of ward number five of Rangpur City Corporation in connection with extortion in Rangpur.

Sub Inspector of Kotwali Police Station Khandokar Muhibbul said Toru along with his associates went to a private hospital Lab Aid in Dhap area of the city at around 11pm and demanded extortion from its manager.

On information, a team of police rushed to the spot and arrested him while the others managed to flee the scene, he added.

Farid Ahamed, manager of the hospital, filed an extortion case against the councillor with Kotwali police station early Thursday.

A Rangpur court on Thursday sent him to jail in an extortion case.
