5 to walk gallows for killing Habiganj farmer
A district court in Habiganj on Tuesday sentenced five people to death and 27 others to different terms of imprisonment for killing a farmer in 2002 of the district.
The condemned convicts are: Anis, Foras, Jamsed, Bazlu and Nur Islam, all resident of Boaljur village in Dighalbagh union. Jamsed, Bazlu and Nur remain absconding.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mafroja Parveen handed down the judgment after examining the records and witnesses.
According to prosecution, Nur Islam along with his cohorts attacked Moktadir Ali, a farmer of the village, as he protested when one of Nur’s cattle foraged his ripe paddy field, leaving him dead on the spot on February 20 in 2002.
Later the victim’s brother Mosahid Ali filed the case against 40 people in this connection with Nabiganj Police Station.
Police submitted charge sheet against 35 people. Among the 35 people, three people died in different times.
