Man to die for killing wife in Jessore

A court in Jessore sentenced a man to death on Monday for killing his wife in 2001.

The court also fined the condemned convict Helal Uddin, 40, a resident of village Shikarpur of sadar upazila of Jessore district, Tk 20,000.

The prosecution story said Helal strangled his second wife Rupali to death at their house in Barandi Para area on June 14, 2001, following a family feud.

A case was filed with Kotwali Police Station in Jessore. After examining all records and witnesses, District Special Judge Nitai Chandra Saha handed down the verdict.

The convict was tried in absentia.
