Former Jamaat leader among 40 held in Rajshahi

Police, in separate drives, arrested 40 people including a former leader of Jamaat-e-Islam Bangladesh from the different areas of Rajshahi district on Sunday night.

The arrested Jamaat leader was identified as Ataur Rahman, former Jamaat-e-Amir of Rajshahi district.

Acting on tip-off, a team of police from Metropolitan police station conducted a drive in a city’s residential hotel around 1am and arrested him, police sources said.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) spokesperson Iftekhayer Alam confirmed the matter to Jagonews on Monday noon.

According to him, the law enforcers arrested 10 from Boalia Model Thana, 15 from Rajpara Thana, seven from Matihar Thana, four from Shah Makhdum while Detective Branch of police (DB) detained four person.

Meanwhile they were sent to jail showing sabotage cases against them this noon.
