Dacoit killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A dacoit was killed in an alleged gunfight with police on Kushtia-Meherpur highway at Nimtola on Wednesday at around 3am.

The deceased was identified Aktarul alias British, son of Samsul Haque, of Borobaria village of Sadarpur union under Mirpur upazila.

According to police, a gang of dacoits were taking preparation to commit robbery on Kushtia-Meherpur highway. Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire, forcing them to retaliate, triggering a ‘gunfight’.

Later, the bullet-riddled body of Aktarul was found on the spot. However, his cohorts managed to flee. Police brought injured Aktarul to Mirpur upazila health complex where doctor declared him dead.

Aktaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, confirmed the matter.
