Three get life term for killing in Bagerhat
A court here on Sunday sentenced three persons to suffer life term imprisonment for killing a man at Mansa Bazaar under Fakirhat upazila of the district in 1996.
The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.
District and Session Judge Mizanur Rahman Khan pronounced the judgment this morning.
According to the court sources, the convicted persons are- Liakat Sheikh, son of Belayet Sheikh, Kasem Sheikh, son of Muktar Sheikh of Mouvog village under Fakirhat upazila and Enamul Islam alias Liton, son of Nurul Islam, a
resident of Siddipasa-Kazipara area under Abhoynagar upazila in Jessore district.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convicted persons chopped one Tusar Morol to death in the area on September 2, 1996.
The victim`s brother Azahar Morol filed a murder case with Fakirhat Thana against 20 persons on September 3, 1996.
Police after investigation submitted charge sheet against 12 persons to the court.
Later, the judge after examining the witnesses and evidences found the convicted persons guilty and handed down the punishment, the court sources said.
The judge also acquitted six accused of the case as the killing charge brought against them was not proved while three others accused were discharged from the case as they died during the trial period of the case. -BSS
