5.5-magnitude earthquake hits central Myanmar

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar at approximately 8:54 am local time on Sunday, according to the country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The epicenter, located 14.5 km northeast of Wundwin town in the Mandalay region, had a depth of 20 km, the report stated.
The earthquake occurred while Myanmar is still engaged in relief efforts following a massive 7.7 magnitude tremor that hit the central region on March 28.
There were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties from the latest quake, which is one of the strongest aftershocks of the March 28 tremor. As of Friday, the death toll from that quake stood at 3,649, with 5,018 injured, according to Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, a spokesperson for Myanmar's military government.
Two Wundwin residents reported that the quake was so strong that people rushed out of buildings, and ceilings in some homes were damaged. A resident of Naypyitaw, however, said he did not feel the latest tremor.
