20 migrant bodies recovered in Libya, most likely Bangladeshis

Twenty migrant bodies have been recovered from an area along the Mediterranean coast in Libya. It is believed that most of them are Bangladeshi nationals, although their identities have not yet been confirmed, according to the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya.
On Thursday, the embassy posted on its Facebook page, stating, "Several bodies of migrants have been recovered over the past two days from the shores of Brega, in eastern Libya. According to local rescue authorities, the bodies were found after a migrant boat sank in the Mediterranean."
The embassy’s post further stated, "There are indications from various sources that some of the bodies may be Bangladeshi nationals, though the embassy has not yet been able to confirm this. The embassy is in close contact with local authorities and relevant parties to gather detailed information."
On Saturday, the embassy released a statement saying, "The nationality of the deceased has not yet been confirmed. However, the local Red Crescent believes they are all Bangladeshi nationals. The embassy has not yet received permission to access the site where the bodies were recovered."
The embassy also noted that the bodies were decomposing and no identification documents were found. Due to the inability to identify the deceased, the bodies were buried 40 kilometers from Brega, in a place called Ajdabiya.
